Gustavo de Aristegui is a third-generation diplomat. His father and grandfather worked as senior diplomats in the capacity of ambassadors in Latin America, Europe and the Middle East. Besides speaking Spanish, Aristegui is also fluent in English, French and German. He is deeply interested in global issues such as international terrorism and security, European politics, Islam and the Arab–Israeli conflict. Arístegui has already authored two best-sellers: El Islamismo contra el Islam (2004), and La yihad en España (2005). The two books talks about war on terror and Al Qaeda in Spain. It was the only country that dealt with Islamist terrorists, at a time when Europe was yet to experience terror. Gustavo de Arístegui has also penned more than 200 articles that have featured in El País, El Mundo, ABC, Al Hayat, Expansión and Reforma. He is a Professor of Diplomatic and Consular Law at the prestigious Madrid’s Pontifical University of Comillas (ICADE). Gustavo Arístegui has also penned various academic essays in the Foreign Affairs Spanish magazine. A much-travelled man, Aristegui has also witnessed some of the biggest international conflicts.
