Head Coach and Executive Director in Bronx, New York, USA

Hello! I'm Guy Monseair, the Head Coach and Executive Director at City Island Rowing in Bronx, NY.

My journey into coaching rowing is a testament to following one's passion and finding fulfillment in unexpected places. Originally, I was immersed in the world of art and horticulture, where I owned and managed several galleries and a horticulture business. Despite the success in these fields, I felt a deeper calling that led me to volunteer as a rowing coach. This experience opened my eyes to the profound impact of mentoring young athletes, not just in developing their physical prowess but also in shaping their character and leadership skills.

Driven by a desire to make a meaningful difference, I decided to dedicate myself fully to coaching. At City Island Rowing, I focus on more than just the mechanics of rowing; I aim to prepare our athletes for life's broader challenges. I believe in nurturing a balanced development that includes mental and emotional growth, reinforced by a strong emphasis on community involvement and academic excellence.

My approach to coaching is deeply influenced by my background in the arts, which helps me bring a unique perspective to sports training—paying attention to the aesthetics of movement and the subtle nuances that can enhance performance. My goal is to cultivate an environment where young rowers not only achieve athletic excellence but also become well-rounded individuals who are ready to lead and inspire others.
