When I am not earning a living (in commercial IT; most recent achievement a 7.5-day circumnavigation via Beijing, Toronto and San Jose, Costa Rica), I spend my time with my beautiful second wife, Jo, and our munchkin of a daughter, Olivia, now 3. Great days are had when my 2 elder daughters from my previous marriage join us: Katherine [b 1989] and Jennie [b 1991]. Otherwise, my main other activity is listening to music and writing about some of it and the composers involved for 'The Gramophone', 'International Piano', 'Tempo', 'The Guardian', ao. Also have two books to my credit, 'Hindemith, Hartmann and Henze' (Phaidon 1995) and 'Jean Sibelius' (Phaidon 1997, reprinted 2008), plus contributions to others, most notably 'Landscapes of the Mind: the music of John McCabe' (Ashgate, 2008).
