Gillian Vetters
VP Internal Candidate
My Background
Though these are not all of the roles I have had the pleasure of occupying at McGill, here are just a few that highlight why I am both qualified and excited to be your VP Internal for 2026-2027!
BDA Staffer
- Working with a team of dozens of student volunteers to staff the AUS's favourite social hour
- Familiarity with regulations and expectations surrounding alcohol service and on-campus events (both logistical needs such as liquor permits, and best practices for safety and inclusivity)
PSSA Funding Coordinator
- Part of the team of coordinators supporting the operations of the departmental association representing over 1,900 AUS members
- Preparing funding applications for PSSA events and other subsidiary portfolios including the McGill Journal of Political Science and Polity Research Conference
Speed Round! Other Relevant Experience
- Directly leading over 30 staff members as Deputy Under Secretary-General of Specialized Agencies for McMUN 2026
- Managing the logistical needs for a week of large-scale interfaculty social events as a Faculty Olympics 2026 Logistics Coordinator
- Introducing first-year students to the McGill community as an Arts Frosh 2025 Leader
My Plans as VP Internal
As VP Internal, I want to make sure that all students feel supported by an AUS that keeps them informed, is proactive in the services it provides, and embraces collaboration across executive portfolios, with departmental associations, and with administration. Here are some of my main plans.
Continued Engagement with Departments
- Centralizing information for departmental association executives relating to common administrative tasks under the internal portfolio
- Creating a concise, easy to use guide for departments on AUS processes and regulations including on the interpretation of legislative documents and the mechanisms of standing committees such as the legislative council and financial management committee
- Adding additional office hours for drop-in assistance of departments and establishing consistent contact with appropriate departmental executives to form productive relationships
- Using the internal portfolio to facilitate more collaboration and strong relationships with ArtSci representatives through regular meetings and support to access Arts resources and initiatives
- Conduct a review of commonly-used subscriptions by departments to inform the purchase of group subscriptions to ensure smaller departments are able to provide their members with equal services
Restructuring FEARC for Greater Outreach
- Introduce former FEARC members as co-chairs to lead the council in a mentorship capacity that empowers council members to take on future leadership roles
- Increase the frequency of FEARC events to promote greater social engagement among first year students, including through greater collaboration with the social portfolio
- Engage in more extensive marketing via social media and other digital communications to promote events and establish FEARC as a strong presence in the Arts community
Support of Other Portfolios
- The VP Internal must be prepared to act as president in the case of the president's absence - this means staying up to date on current projects, and intentional cross-portfolio capacity building from the beginning of the term!
- Implementing regular check-ins with the president to ensure the internal is updated on current initiatives and concerns of the AUS, and collaborating to ensure the internal is capable of executing any tasks they may need to assist with
- Establishing ongoing communication between the internal and other AUS executives and facilitating collaboration between portfolios by bridging logistical gaps and providing ad-hoc assistance
