gwenflorio

Veteran journalist Gwen Florio has covered stories ranging from the shootings at Columbine High School and the trial of Oklahoma City bomber Timothy McVeigh, to the glitz of the Miss America pageant and the more practical Miss Navajo contest whose participants slaughter a sheep. She's reported from Afghanistan, Iraq and Somalia, as well as Lost Springs, Wyoming (population three). Her journalism has twice been nominated for the Pulitzer Prize and her short fiction for the Pushcart Prize. She's received grants from the New Jersey State Council on the Arts, and residencies from the Ucross Foundation and Brush Creek Foundation for the Arts. She now covers crime and the occasional backyard bear in the university town of Missoula, Montana, where she lives at the foot of Mount Jumbo with her partner, Scott, and an exuberant young bird dog named Nell.
