You are currently reading a short biography of Gyaltsen Moktan, a fourth year Biological Science student that is hoping to pursue a Masters degree in Environmental Science. What he plans to do with that remains a mystery but hopefully contributes towards the fight against climate change. Before discovering his passion for environmental science, Gyaltsen had aspired to be a wildlife veterinarian due to the everlasting impression of the work of Jane Goodall. Her passion towards the protection and conservation of not only chimpanzees, but the entire planet continues to inspire him everyday to make a difference. Ever since a child, the nooks and crannies of the natural world drew him in. He would capture spiders from his backyard and keep them in jars by his bedside, despite his mother getting heart attacks seeing them every time. He would wake up early every morning to tune into the National Geographic channel to see what other natural phenomenon could possibly exist that would leave him more awestruck than the last. Though a clear career goal has not been set, it is almost fate he will work alongside the outdoors. Possible careers include environmental scientist, wildlife biologist and ecologist.
Academics aside, Gyaltsen is an avid moviegoer and spends his spare time either watching films or reading about them. His favorite films include Goodfellas, The Godfather, Up and Toy Story. He also enjoys volunteering at the local veterinary hospital, where he spends as much time petting cats and running around with dogs as he does assisting the veterinarian staff.
A fact that not many people know about Gyaltsen is that he loves playing music and has experience playing the piano, violin, guitar, drums and flute. After graduating high school, he received a scholarship to pursue piano at the University of Chicago, but instead chose to attend the University of Guelph with hopes of following his passion in obtaining a science-based career. However, music still plays a major role in his life as he loves to collect vinyl and has a collection with over 700 records.
