Hire me

Hello! My name is Hakeem Wakil, an undergraduate student at Chapman University. I am majoring in Educational Studies and minoring in Mathematics. I am currently looking to attain my Masters degree and credential in my fifth year at Chapman.

I love working with children and have been so for ten years. In 2009, I became a soccer official, and in 2017, I started my first job at a school as an administrative assistant. These two jobs have given me an immense amount of experience dealing with children and parents, two necessary traits in working in education.

I have developed a very unique philosophy on education after my time at Chapman University. I feel that learning should be student centered and that the teacher should act as a guide and facilitator. This can be accomplished through the means of a blended curriculum, and giving students a choice on how to complete assignments. When teachers give students a little bit more control in their learning and act as a guide, students can attain higher levels of success. Not every student learns the same, so it is important that educators cater to the needs of their students.

I also believe that students should be taught of the social injustices in society to give them a better understanding of what really occurs in the world. I am fortunate to have had the opportunity to take classes that educate students about under-privileged groups, gender, etc. This has helped me expand my mindset and become more civically engaged in the community. As an educator, I hope to give my students the opportunity to conduct fieldwork that will broaden their scope, while also using the stories of historical figures to teach them about the struggle for justice. I hope to have a positive impact on students once I enter the classroom, just as my teachers have impacted me. I can be reached at [email protected] for any inquiries. Thank you!
