Haley Smith
Student in Sudbury, ON, Canada
Hi! My name is Haley and I am currently in the last year of my undergraduate degree at Laurentian University. I'm majoring in History and minoring in English Rhetoric. I live in the small town of Blenheim, Ontario and attended Harwich Raleigh Public School. I later travelled to Chatham, Ontario to pursue French immersion at Chatham-Kent Secondary School. Growing up, I was always involved in sports. I’m pretty sure I was skating before I even started walking! Although I was involved in soccer, cross-country, dance, and track, hockey has always been my favourite. I played competitive hockey in Sarnia, Ontario (which was quite a commute!) I strongly believe that the foundations needed to be a good hockey player, are similar to the foundations needed to be a good teacher. As one of the captains of my hockey team, I soon realized the amount of dedication, inspiration, commitment, and teamwork that was needed when both playing for and leading a team. I believe these qualities are also needed for the development in becoming an excellent teacher. I will strive to be dedicated to my students and ensure they can reach their goals; I hope to inspire them and help them recognize their passions, and I hope to be committed to both myself and my students. I believe that my experience and dedication, along with my ability to manage a heavy work schedule, will allow myself to thrive in the teaching profession. I cannot wait to integrate the skills and passions I learned from sports and instill them in the lives of my students.
