I’m Haley, or Yili, as my Fuzhou friends call me, and I am finishing up my first year post-college working as a–you guessed it– teacher in Fuzhou, China. I graduated May 2013 as a Linguistics major from Reed College in Portland, Oregon, and have been continuing to put myself in uncomfortable situations since. It’s true what they say–the Pacific Northwest is a beautiful place to live and explore, and as an expert procrastinator I saw a fair chunk of the lovely NW during my time in school there. The love of adventure that propelled me then is exactly what convinced me to leave the comfort of the US for foreign territory. It started with a summer spent working on a farm in hot and sunny Sao Teotonio, Portugal, and a series of rapid decisions propelled me into the future here in China, where I’m no less than 13 hours ahead of my family and friends.
This website is a way for me to focus my thoughts, share my exciting ideas, and get feedback on projects I’m working on. Check out the Gone Postal tab for my recent posts, an arriving-soon tab called Picture This for photos, and feel free to ignore the My Stats page–that’s just a way for me to remember if I got a degree or not.
Stay tuned–I’m a constant whirlwind of new ideas and projects, so this website won’t stay static for very long. Shoot me an email with anything that’s on your mind–thoughts, comments, suggestions–and I’ll get back to you!
