Halsey Minor

San Francisco, CA

Halsey Minor was born in 1964 in Charlottesville and is most famous for founding CNET, the tech giant that was one of the first internet companies to turn a profit. Before starting CNET, Minor graduated from the University of Virginia with a degree in Anthropology. Minor ran CNET for many years and left in 2000 to pursue other interests. CNET would be sold to CBS in 2008.

Minor also founded Minor Ventures, a venture capital group dedicated to helping startups get off the ground, and developed two other companies in Vignette Software and Snap/NBCi. He was also an early and major investor of Salesforce.com, a company partly responsible for the success of cloud computing.

Today, Minor splits his time between the East and West Cost. In addition to his work in technology and startups, Mr. Minor is a collector of fine art and an avid horse racing fan.
