He was promoted to plant operation management; combining his lean, technical and innovation skills and applying them in a complex vertical and unionized manufacturing environment. This resulted in facility consolidation and quality improvement to best in class. In recognition of Hal’s leadership capabilities, ITT supported and sponsored Hal for the MBA program at the University of Rochester, Simon School of Business.
Hal Zimmermann: Continuous Improvement
Hal joined the President of ITT Automotive at Alcan Packaging, Inc. as the Director of Continuous Improvement for the global food, meats, medical and beverage packaging sector. After exposure to various aspects of the business and completion of the Alcan corporate leadership development program, Hal relocated to Paris, France in a Global Marketing role. Reporting to the CEO of the packaging business, he focused on leading and transitioning the commercial organization to a more dynamic and process-oriented organization, which used segmentation and value-based pricing to improve margin.
After returning to the U.S., Hal transitioned to the healthcare market and was recruited by Cardinal Health to lead one of the largest pharmaceutical business units. Hal implemented a strategy to envelop the pharmaceutical products with services helping customers to reduce costs and non-value added activity in their operation. This inspired the buildout of a consultative services group which he designed and created with a range of offers aimed to differentiate Cardinal while improving the effectiveness of its customers. This resulted in growth from $4.9B to $8.9B in 2 years.
