It is a commonly known fact that the Serbs are not fond of Muslims. On an individual level, my husband was told by his own Serb uncle a Muslim man should not be permitted to marry a Christian woman. Naturallyhe was devastated and did not return to our place for 2 months. Even then, he was ready to undergo union with a Christian girl only if there wasn't any immediate danger to his own life.

Luckily he escaped to Canada where he could marry a gorgeous lady without fear of repercussions. Regrettably, his experience isn't an isolated person. While in Belgrade he witnessed the way the Muslim guy beat up a Christian girl because she did not finish a spiritual test. The woman afterwards died from her injuries.

In fact, this incident occurred before my eyes and I neglected to intervene. That is why I use the"No" option once I fill the" Volunteering in my Own Country" self evaluation form. But it should be stated that the same cannot be said about the volunteer services in Afghanistan and Iraq. There have been a number of instances of rape and violence against minorities. The sufferers are Muslims and Christians alike.

I can only hope that the government of Serbia will soon introduce a law that prohibits all forms of discrimination irrespective of gender, race or faith. I was amazed to find out that the government of Serbia has nothing good to propose as far as the safety of minority communities is worried. There's no legal provision for victims of crimes to file for compensation from the offenders. Therefore, filling the"Volunteering in my country" self assessment form is totally voluntary.

In a situation like this, any person who would like to help the deprived people of his country should do so without any sense of pity. According to a recent survey, nine out of every ten Serbs consider themselves as good philanthropists! This can be quite an wonderful figure when you come to think of it. It also goes to show that not all them are selfish or egoistic. There are some very genuine feelings of empathy and concern which they wish to help other people in need.

If you wish to assist the innocent victims of ethnic cleansing in Chechnya, you are able to fill out the"Voluntary Work abroad in my own Country" self assessment form. You won't receive any financial help. However, you'll get a moral boost and feel good about yourself. And that's a priceless benefit!
