As-salāmu ʿalaykum Thinkers,

I am Hamidah Abbas, an author exploring the impact of music on society. I am fascinated by the complexity of being human, and I write about salvation. However, my primary focus is gender and polygamy in Islam.

Some of my digital books (Hall of Light) include:

  • Women are the Messengers of Life
  • The No-Polygamy Clause in Islam: According to the Companions
  • Salvation in minutes, and more.

Where it started.

As an ever curious autistic mind, at the age of 10, I wrote my first “book,” Ṣẹ́gun, in my language, the Yorùbá language.

Fast forward to three years later: at the age of 13, out of genuine concern for society, I submitted three articles to at-Taleem magazine, and all of the articles were published. All. Three. Not one. Not a single one was rejected. And certainly, all praises belong to ALLAH.

Throughout my life, my inability to stop researching and asking questions resulted in a few outcomes.

  • Childhood and adolescence: I won different prizes at the OTM Seminar Quizzes (Future Scholars of Nigeria).
  • 2007 - 2013: At Ummul-Qura Institute, Ibadan: I won various prizes for being the only student who answered a Hadith question correctly. I won multiple debate competitions and I also served as the General Secretary of the Press Club in 2012.
  • 2014: I won the Islamic quiz competition organised by the Muslim Students Society of Nigeria (MSSN) at the Institute of Human Resource Development (INHURD, Mawuko).
  • 2016: I co-founded FUNAAB Media Houses United (FMHU)
  • 2018: I was a speaker at the AgroDefacto Summit, FUNAAB. I also won al-Mustakshif Impromptu Speech Competition organised by al-Mustakshif, MSSN, FUNAAB.
  • 2026: I was a panelist at the 9th Annual Sisters’ Summit of the Pure Hearts Islamic Foundation of Nigeria (Oyo State Chapter), which was held on Sunday, 21st Dhul-Hijjah 1447 (7th June 2026), at the Ọ̀jọ́ọ̀ Civic Hall, Ìbàdàn. The event was livestreamed on their Facebook page, and my contribution begins at the 1:23:33 timestamp.

AlhamduliLLAH today, as a Certified Muslim Intellectual, I share some of my thoughts.

Some of my letters include:

  • 1️⃣ ALLAH is Closer than you think: This is a story of a Tasbih counter from Masjid-l-Haram, Makkah
  • 2️⃣ When Life Feels Delayed: Lessons from the Story of Prophet Ibrahim (Alayhi Salaam). This includes a practical tip. AlhamduliLLAH.
  • 3️⃣ An-Nisa: ALLAH loves women: This is the story of a woman from my university whose experience proves that Almighty ALLAH loves women who leave polygamy.
  • 4️⃣ The Gender War that Shayṭān is currently waging on earth: If you've ever been troubled by the subject of gender in Islam, read this. Fun fact: In a way, this is a topic I've spent most of my life with.
  • 5️⃣ Hall of Light: This is the only place where you'll find all of my talks and digital books about gender and polygamy in Islam. It's a place of light and delight for deep thinkers.

A fun fact about me is that I am a firm follower of the truth. It doesn't matter what I feel; I follow the truth, not my truth.

In summary, I am a lifelong seeker of answers who hopes to get better at Qur'an recitation and memorisation.

So all praises belong to Almighty ALLAH, who has revealed “وَمَكَرُوا وَمَكَرَ اللَّهُ ۖ وَاللَّهُ خَيْرُ الْمَاكِرِينَ” - Qur'an 3:54

Again, all praises belong to ALLAH who has bestowed on me, the gift placing the Shahadah upon a few tongues.

Some people say, “There’s no God.” Others say, “There’s no god but mine.”

ALLAH means “The God.” Therefore, to be a Muslim (one who submits to God) is to say—and mean—“There’s no god but The God.”

Basically, God is God.

And all praises belong to ALLAH who has sent the Prophet ﷺ with the Qur'an and Sunnah.

Sincerely,

Hamidah Sẹ̀gílọlá Abbas (HSA)
