Hanis Farisa
Artist in Malaysia
Hanis Farisa (b. 1993, Kuala Lumpur) earned her MSc in Sustainable Urban Design (UTM), in 2019 and graduated with a degree in Industrial Design at International Islamic University Malaysia in 2016. She is a multidisciplinary creative and adventurer whose paintings, sculptures and installation art employed a wide range of media and elemental materials such as light, water, air and textile to enhance the viewer’s experience of the ordinary. She spent her formative years roaming alone through the hills and strange places, and this love of solitude, research, and forward motion informs much of her creative practice. Her restlessness has joyously dragged her to a lot of inspiring places, and recently, she is exploring the waterscapes in Malaysia.
Hanis’s early interest in natural phenomena and perception led her to create works that simultaneously sparked and challenged the senses. The opportunity to explore and experiment with techniques and materials across mediums is fundamental to her practice as a multidisciplinary artist and designer. Her work often combines a traditional format in sculpture or painting with exploratory techniques and non-traditional surface treatments. Knowledge of interdisciplinary design is applied to create new and innovative combinations.
Hanis Farisa is an emerging artist rising in times of Covid-19 pandemic. Her journey as a professional artist started in January 2021, under the tutelage of a minimalist, Fendy Zakri who was then under the guidance of Asia’s maestro Yusof Ghani. Her most recent group shows include Pure Painting 2.0 Maybank, HOM Art Open 2021 & 2022 and has participated in a virtual art residency by HAUS Kuching. Hanis Farisa is currently working in a corporate fintech sector, and has taught Interior Architecture at a public university.
