Hannah Haakenson

As a recent graduate of California Polytechnic State University San Luis Obispo (Cal Poly) in Applied Nutrition with a minor in Biology, I am ready for what life has next! I spent my time at Cal Poly learning through 'Learn by Doing' and loved every minute. Through hands-on labs, community service, clinical practice case studies, and projects in a variety of nutrition focuses, I was immersed in nutrition knowledge and experiences.

Through my wide breadth of nutrition studies, I desire to use my education and certifications to focus in the field of nutrition counseling in eating disorders. Through my own struggle with an eating disorder, I truly experienced the importance of nutrition therapy, education, and overall compassion in the field.

I have an invaluable internship at the Central Coast Treatment Center for Eating Disorders and apply 'Learn by Doing' in my daily duties. I continually learn about SOAP note taking, menu planning, food preparation, nutrition education, motivational interviewing, and a client-centered approach to nutrition counseling. Working under the Registered Dietitian at the center has challenged me and led me to grow in my competence and confidence that I want to pursue the field of dietetics.
