As a junior at the Isenberg School of Management at The University of Massaschusetts Amherst, I have a strong passion for both accounting and photography.
Ever since I can remember, I have been intrigued by math. It was always my favorite class throughout my elementary and high school years, which is where my love for accounting stems and continues to grow in the environment at UMass. However, there is another passion I have which is far different from accounting, and that is photography.
In eigth grade, I started taking pictures using my mother's digital camera. Soon enough, I had my own Nikon SLR camera that was with me at all times. The feeling of being able to capture a moment, and more importantly an emotion, intrigued me and motivated me to become better photographer.
In more recent months, I experienced a death in my family which brought many tears and sadness, but also brought something unexpected. My loved one that passed away left me her Nikon film camera, which although brought new challenges, also brought another passion ignited within me about photography. Since then, I have been shooting with my film camera. It took a few rolls of film to figure out the lighting, aperature, and some other details, but it was something I knew I had to figure out in order to move forward in my photography journey.
With everything so instant and digital in this era, it is nice to have a slower appraoch to capturing life. Since there are only 24 photos on a roll of film, I must carefully choose what moment is worth capturing, and although it takes longer to have my pictures developed, my excitement never dwindles when I get my pictures back.
Photography is about capturing the pure essence of a moment. Whether it may be watching my friends smile over their new puppy, a overgrown path in the woods, or a purple sunset sky, there is always a beautiful moment to capture.
Although my two passions, accounting and photography, are polar opposites, I couldn't picture myself doing anything else. I get to express my love for numbers, teamwork, and organization in the accounting world, while I get to show my creative side and color outside the lines with my photography. In a world so complex and fast-paced, these two passions are how I stay sane.
As for my future plans, I hope to continue to practice my photograhy for fun for as long as I can. As for my career path, I recently just accepted an offer
