Hi, My name is Hannah Carroll. I am currently a student, hoping to further my education as a physician. I graduated from Nazareth Academy in 2021. Through my highschool career, I had been involved in many different clubs and activities. All four years, I had been on my class board. My sophomore and junior year I was an executive member as well. I was on my school's cheerleading team freshman year, joined French club, Nazareth Future Healthcare Professionals, Experience Fitness Club, and even became involved in our drama department. My sophomore and junior year, I was head of the makeup crew for our plays and musicals. Starting junior year I was able to join honors societies. I was a part of Mu Alpha Theta, National English Honors Society, and National Honors Society. In NHS, I was voted as the President. Along with being in school full time and being a part of all of these clubs, I also had a job every year of highschool.
Before highschool, I was a very active teen. I was a competitive figure skater for 8 years, played softball, and started playing volleyball. This was all changed when in 2016 I was diagnosed with bone cancer in my right knee. I went through 18 rounds of chemotherapy, a major knee replacement surgery, and stayed a total of 9 months in and out of the hospital. After I finished treatment, side effects caused more complications and I needed to also have an invasive hip surgery in May of 2017. This diagnosis changed my life, but i’m not sure I would be the person I am today, if I did not have to overcome this battle. I use this diagnosis as the driving force into my future career, because I want to become a Pediatric Oncologist and Hematologist. I want to be able to relate to other kids going through a similar situation and show them, that they can have a life after treatment.
