Hannah Kane
Iowa City, IA
Recently acquired my MLIS while working at both my local public library and the main library of the local University. For many summers I coordinated educational programs for young people at the Belin-Blank Center. I have a BA in cinema, plus a minor in religious studies. GSRM and gender equality activist.
I spend my free time reading, writing, gallavanting, and volunteering. As an undergrad I helped launch the Iowa Student Interactive Theater Experience (i-site), an interactive theater group which seeks to educate their peers about consent, healthy relationships, and related issues; I still work with them when I can. You might also find me answering the sexual assault hotline via the Rape Victim Advocacy Program, and I spend a lot of free time at the Women's Resource and Action Center. When I can, I help out at Camp HOPE for Kids, an amazing weekend camp for children and teenagers grieving the loss of a loved one.
I believe in equal access for everyone, regardless of gender identity, sexual orientation, assigned sex, race, ethnicity, disability, criminal record, and so on. Access to libraries and their services was essential in becoming who I am today, and continues to benefit me on an almost-daily basis.
