It all started in seventh grade. A discovery that would help me learn more about myself and the world in ways I never imagined possible. One middle school class that would help me grow into the person I am today. This was the year I started learning Spanish. A language that has not only given me the ability to communicate with more people than ever before, but also broadened my horizons and introduced me to different cultures all around the world.

Since beginning Spanish, I have aspired to become more fluent. In high school I pushed myself to take the most to take the classes that would allow me to get closer to my goal of speaking this language fluently. Some of these classes included Spanish 3 Pre-AP, Spanish 4 AP, and and Spanish 5 AP. I also spent two summers abroad in Spain to gain real life experiences.

Spanish has also led me to help more people in my community. The summer before moving to Athens, I volunteered at Manos de Cristo, a non-profit organization that provides dental care, supplies, and education to impoverished hispanic families in Austin, Texas. I aided in teaching adults English, helped make resumes for job applications, and participated in mock interviews. I never would have been able to participate in this amazing experience if it weren't for the language I was introduced to as a middle school student.

My passion for Spanish has expanded my perspective on the world, allowing me to form my own opinions about the society we live in today. I have always embraced other cultures, but this aspect of my personality has grown deeper the more I have explored the language of Spanish.
