Happy Dog Day Care and Boarding was established in 1998 with the guiding principle that it was “built from the ground up with your dog in mind.” It was the first alternative style boarding and doggy day care in the Humboldt area. The original owners, Cathy and Diane, set out to start a doggy day care where they would feel comfortable leaving their own dogs. They brought that dream to life with Happy Dog. In 2018, the current owner Jackie came on board, and she and her staff have continued the tradition of focusing on each dog’s individual needs to make sure every dog in their care is comfortable and happy. The alternative kenneling style has been very successful. It was the winner of the 2020 Nextdoor Favorite Doggy Day Care and Boarding Facility, and the Times Standard Best of 2021 for Favorite Doggy Day Care and Boarding Facility on the North Coast. In addition, Happy Dog was nominated for best of Humboldt 2021 Readers Choice Award under doggie daycare/boarding in the Northcoast Journal.

Happy Dog offers day care and boarding services, and has the facilities and staff to make sure your dog enjoys being there. It has seven main play areas that feature Foreverlawn K-9 grass, in addition to some non-group areas for our shyer friends. Under the care of a well-trained and attentive staff, your dog is introduced to other dogs at its own pace, based on its personality. This way all the dogs are happy and comfortable while getting the socialization and playtime they love. Happy Dog serves Canidae All Life Stages food, and is able to help with any special food preparation at no additional charge. For those dogs that are boarding, there are spacious 5 x 10 kennels with cozy heated floors and soothing music piped in. Safety of the dogs is taken very seriously, and a first-class security system with all-night observation helps make sure they are closely looked after. The staff will also take care of administering any medications your dog may need during their stay. Everything from the play areas and kennels to the people that are caring for your dog has been chosen to make sure that every dog’s stay with us is a happy one!
