Harman Sidhu

Bareilly

Hi,

I am Harman. I am currently working as an Executive Officer for Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) at Bareilly, India.

I grew up in an environment of camaraderie in a small town of India, where families and people co-exist in a perpetually live network of human interactions. Many of my inherent traits are the outcome of this particular atmosphere that pervaded the circumstances of my upbringing and shaped my inclinations. This experience has inspired me to envisage a sustainable and green future for the society.

Long before joining the elite cadres of an IIT, I had become deeply involved in an NGO in my hometown and initiated projects designed for the rehabilitation of drug addicts as well as those formulated to deliver sound education to underprivileged children in my town. There is a specific learning that comes from engaging with the truly deprived. A certain sense of obligation infuses the psyche and makes people permanently committed to the cause of alleviating distress.

College was an exhilarating experience because it exposed me, for the first time in my life, to a realm of excellence, which had not been part of my circumstances. Added to this was the discovery of an entirely unprecedented network of individuals with aspirations of a high order and competencies to match. I thrived in the unfamiliar ambience and was able to bring to my circle of fellow students, the skills of planning and organization that I had unwittingly acquired during my stint with the NGO. We joined an NGO that worked for the education of impoverished children in the city.

It was during College that I was bitten by travel bug. I have travelled through remote parts of the country during my college time. After getting a job, I fulfilled my dream of doing a Eurotrip with my friends. Apart from travelling, I am a huge enthusiast of adventure sports. I have done white water rafting, Bungee Jumping and Sky diving in the past few years.

Football had always been an abiding passion even in my early student days. One of my biggest dreams that I have yet to fulfill is to sing "You'll Never Walk Alone" while standing in the Kop End of Anfield in match between Liverpool and Manchester United.
