Harriet Bunning
I am currently an undergraduate student in my final year of BSc Evolutionary Biology at the University of Exeter's Cornwall campus. I have completed a research project using nutritional geometry to investigate the differing effects of nutrition on fitness of male and female cockroaches (see a similar study). I have also completed a dissertation where I reviewed evidence for how intralocus sexual conflict affects sex ratio biasing (for example).
I am continuing to work, assisting a Masters student with a project investigating the effects of nutrition on immunity in crickets. Next year I intend to start on my own Masters in research in the same group, continuing work with nutritional geometry.
In my spare time, I help on the family farm with breeding programmes for our traditional and rare breed cattle, including Dexters, Belted Galloways and Riggit Galloways. I am intersted in applying science from the lab to this agricultural context and have worked with the Riggit Galloway Cattle Society to help standardize and maintain the breed.
I am also interested in science education. I have worked with the National Trust for a number of years where my role involved providing visitors with information about local fauna and flora as well managing pitches at events to promote knowledge and care of the environment.
