When I was 18 I was asked to coach a park league basketball team. I did. I loved it! Over the next four years I coached basketball, football, baseball and softball. I also refereed basketball. I didn't know it at the time but I was living my calling.
Working with teenagers, even when I was a teenager, was pure joy and I never looked at it as a job. It’s rare that you find your purpose in life so early in life.
Then at 22-years-old I stopped coaching and went to college. I'm one of those people the loves math so I received my degree in Computer Science and took a job in the aerospace industry.
Even though I left my calling, my calling didn’t leave me. Because all through college, and after, I took teenagers on retreats, held youth workshops and planned youth conferences. Again, I still didn't know that's what I was supposed to do with my life. I just loved it.
After college I became the Director of the Youth Ministry at my church. I continued working with teenagers and began counseling them an their parents to foster better communication and build stronger parent-child relationships.
I began speaking at conferences, retreats, and schools and, for the last 22-years, taking teenagers on college tours and helping them get into and pay for college. Along the way, I managed to start, build and sell a software distribution business.
After 40+ years of working with teenagers and their parents I love it more today than I ever have.
