New London, New Hampshire

My name is Harry Carr. I am 50 years old and live in New London, NH. Due to a Service Connected Neurological Condition, I am also Visually Impaired. While participating in recreational programs with the Boston VA and the New England Handicap Sports Association (NEHSA), I was introduced to recumbent cycling. A volunteer from the Boston VA, and now my cycle partner/FOA Team Coach Bill Hamilton, noticed that I really enjoyed cycling. Bill has been instrumental and inspiring in my recumbent cycle activities. I thank Bill for encouraging me to pursue the sport of cycling. Because of my Service Connected disabilities, I have not driven a vehicle for more than 10 years. In addition to the new freedom that recumbent cycling has given me, it has also given me more confidence in myself and I feel a lot healthier. Other outdoor activities that I participate in include adaptive skiing and kayaking with NEHSA at Mount/Lake Sunapee New Hampshire. In August 2012, myself and other Visually Impaired and Blind Veterans White Water Kayaked with Team River Runner in parts of Yellowstone National River in Montana in a clinic called “OUTASIGHT”.
