Harshita Bhardwaj

Leicester, UK

Being a fashion designer, I want to challenge the boundaries of imagination by re-living the classic design fundamentals of my country, with elegance and sensuality. I design beautiful, sensuous and path breaking clothes for the lovely, urbane, and fashionable women of the world.

My uniqueness lies with the idea of making collection with some intention i.e. my collection not only talks about fashion and creativity but also about emotions, feelings, innovation and experiment behind that creation. I work with the concept of reusing of clothes creating innovative silhouettes with gamut of indigenous fabrics which also maintain the earthiness of Indian hand loom and delicateness of today’s urban fashion. I am very serious follower and believer of ethical and sustainable fashion; with respect to this I did my first collection keeping sustainability and ethics in mind.

Taking about my collection, Mélange- the Power of expression, here, I have tried to make something unique and fashionable using my grandmother’s Bhagalpuri silk saris. As she is no more with me, I want her to be with me in some or the other way. So, I finally got the solution of it and then I decided to use her saris which she said are mine after her. In this way, I was successful in keeping my granny’s love forever in the form of my creation and was able to do justice with the ethics and sustainability in fashion as well.

I have done my schooling from Ryan International School, Noida(India) where I was motivated by my teachers to pursue my career in fashion designing. Then, I finally did my graduation in Fashion Designing and Technology from Amity University, Noida(India), currently pursuing higher education in Fashion Management from De Montfort University, Leicester(UK) and now it’s time to contribute to the fashion field by doing something eminent, memorable and innovative.

I got motivated, when I did my first show in nationally renowned fashion platform, Wills Lifestyle “Debut” and got selected and got my first break to showcase my collection in front of everyone and became one of the finalists to reach grand finale. Then continuing to this, I did my graduation design collection in 2011.

Then in 2011, I worked as a Business Developer for a website, Design Emporia. The major part of my work included Marketing, liaison building and maintaining relationships with renowned Indian Fashion Designers. Now, one would think why this job. It again has a deep meaning
