Gillian Harvey, MA (U.K.) CGD

After soaking up experience and accolades in the design industry for the past 12 years, Gillian is still craving the complex in the quest to make simple. Her philosophy on communication is foolproof: ask a lot of questions, don’t edit anything, and then simplify visually. She is an instructor, researcher in Information Design at the Department of Art and Design, University of Alberta since 2004 and a project-based art director. As a former studio partner, she conducts each project with wit and efficiency.

Gillian is part of of Unit B, a creative collective in Edmonton, Alberta where she collaborates with educators, health care professionals, communicators, non-profits and government. In her portfolio you will find a range of communication tools including quarterly newsletters, annual reports, exhibit graphics, and re-branding campaigns. Gillian’s work has encompassed signage programs for Head-Smashed-In-Buffalo Jump, exhibition design at the Frank Slide Museum in the Crowsnest Pass, creative platform development for the County of Brazeau and many documents designed for the Alberta Government.

Her core capabilities include clear language, data visualization, standards and procedural information, wayfinding and signage, typography for reading, print and digital publishing and form and document design.

She holds over a dozen regional, national, and international awards, and is a published writer in the Journal of Information Design: IIID. She is a professional member of International Institute of Information Design (IIID), the Communication Research Institute and the Graphic Designers of Canada, Alberta North Chapter.

Gillian has a Bachelor of Design from the University of Alberta and an MA in Information Design from the University of Reading in Reading, UK.
