About Me

I’m Hayden, a high school senior living in Sammamish. As the sports section editor for The Spartan Forum in 2022, I learned a lot about the industry of journalism in its current state, where online media giants have slowly phased smaller outlets out of the picture. Because of this change, coverage for local communities has become few and far between.

My focus going into the year was to have at least one point of emphasis that related back to the students of Skyline or the city of Sammamish. Even the biggest of stories that have relevance on a national scale should include a tieback to the publisher's demographics. I personally found that insight gathered from interviews was the best way of providing this tieback, and it ultimately made my articles more well-rounded.

Focusing on providing quality stories that aren't written for clicks and advertisement revenue will be an uphill battle for the future of journalism. Still, I believe it's a challenge that the next generation of news writers will welcome thanks to the addition of a Journalism program at high schools like Skyline.
