Hayne Kim

East Lansing, MI

Hayne Kim, a native of Lansing, Michigan, began her studies on the violin at the dreamy age of ten. Her love of performing has acquainted her with various stages, from Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center to town squares in the Italian countryside, churches in the American Midwest to experimental performance venues in Brooklyn. An ardent supporter of contemporary music, she takes a special interest in collaborating with living composers, and has premiered many new works. She is also an active freelance chamber musician and has performed with New York City-based groups such as the Shattered Glass Ensemble and the Opus Nine Ensemble, among others. Ms. Kim was fortunate to receive influence from both the Galamian and Russian traditions of violin pedagogy under her teachers Lyman Bodman, Dmitri Berlinsky, and Grigory Kalinovsky. She holds a Bachelor's degree from the Manhattan School of Music where she was the recipient of the Vice President's Award. She is currently pursuing her Master's degree under full scholarship at Michigan State University. Her non-musical interests include literature, languages, and visual arts.
