Have you ever wanted a short listing of of items to keep 'under control' as you're managing projects? This short list would contain essential steps which, if always kept in check and balance, would lead you to project success? Sure it's important to follow market project directions from the Project Management Institute and within the Project Management Professional (PMP) Certification, but it is important to keep these essential measures at the forefront of my head ALL THE WAY through the project - from beginning to end. Often these facets may be over-looked or forgotten, or regarded as 'unnecessary' within the rush to acquire a project underway. Stand Up and end the insanity, make sure you have a definite path before trying to get to your destination.. Or you will get lost on the way. Key Measures: 1. Before even taking a look at business needs or spending much time on a task, be sure you know: a. Who the executive sponsor is and receive the following information directly from that sponsor: i. Task intentions and scope Two. What the project isn't or what's out of scope iii. Who the Customers are for the project. (many times, clients are internal to the organization) iv. If a Return o-n Investment document has been created and what is expected of a ROI document. What aspects of the business are earnings anticipated? v. Project Budget and how costs are permitted vi. Expected Project Success Facets vii. That they want this project continue currently time, or even, when can it be to begin viii. Timeline expected for project completion ix. Agreement to put organizations resources about the task to get it done x. Required project status and reporting xi. Agreement on the communication plan to other afflicted events, consumers and vendors xii. Agreement as to the assigned project supervisor and support from the sponsor that if there are difficulties with the executive sponsors attention that is required by the project, that the sponsor can extend support for acquiring the decision T. Then put all of this information on paper, generally in certain kind of project initiation document and then all project leaders, vendors and customers and CIO SIGN the document. I cannot stress how essential this part is. I can not stress exactly how many times we've come the end of a project and a minimum of one-of these parties (sponsors, customers or CIO) state they never consented to some percentage of the reported data in the project initiation document. This is particular
