Heather Byers

Columbus, Ohio, United States

I've been in publishing my entire adult life. I started out as Yearbook Editor in high school, designed ads in the composition department for my college newspaper, and later I worked at various professional technical publications after obtaining a bachelor's degree in visual journalism. I later went back to school for continuing education in graphic/web design and marketing to further my knowledge in coding and to help my employer with progressing their email marketing campaigns.

I moved to Chicago in 2010 for a job opportunity. Within a month, my entire life changed: I planned my wedding in a week and a half; instead of enjoying a lazy honeymoon, I spent the following week solo across the country for job training; then two weeks later I began an amazing opportunity working in a century-old historical building on Michigan Ave., later moving our magazine to the Diamond Building across from Millenium Park. The City took my breathe away with the public transits, the architecture, the food and the culture. Chicago is where I became an adult. It pushed me and my partner to boundries we have never known before. It is where I gave an unmedicated, natural birth to my son in Frank Lloyd Wright and Ernest Hemingway's home town. It is the place where I found myself.

We moved our family back to our home state of Columbus, Ohio, in Spring 2014, to support my husband's job opportunity. Moving away has made me realize the beauty of this state, that the people here are much friendlier and are so proud of where they live, that you can drive three miles and be there under 10 minutes. I have a completely new and different perspective on life than I did only four years ago.

Today, I am loving being able to watch my son grow and witness his milestones. He is the best parts of me and my husband, and I am so incredibly thankful that I was given this gift. When he is napping or late at night, I work on planning my dog treat business' website, crochet or sew nursery items.

My current goals in life are to finish all the projects that I've started before starting another and to be a person of doing.
