Heather McKenzie
Union Bay
Hi I'm Heather, of Union Bay BC.
In January 2014 I begin my journey towards completing my degree in dietetics. After having my first child (he is now 2) I became engulfed in research about "what should I feed this guy anyway". Fast forward to now and I have another son who is 8 months old and who enjoys the fruits of my labourious research these past couple of years. A few aha moments drew me into the realms of GAPS and paleo diets... as well as farmers markets and local food (what a delight--can't turn back now); and finally, to the idea of becoming a nutritionist. I am so stoked about the possibility of healing our collective chronic and degenerative illnesses that have arisen from our modern lifestyles (diets especially). And hey, how about just feeling awesome.
Meanwhile, I don't believe this is will be fringe, alternative stuff for much longer. Since it will take me more than a few years to become a dietician... well in any case I think we live in interesting times indeed. I believe the best path for me will be to go the mainstream route and become a registered dietician. This way I can offer my services within the medical field and in the community with no need for a schtick and with my credentials in place. (All due respect for people with effective schticks, I am just not so schtick savvy and have more to offer from an anylitical and one-on-one angle).
Collectively, we deserve better than how we have been muddling along. In my view, its all about what we eat--we can make it better.
: ) Wish me luck.
