Heather Whited

Student, Volunteer, and Teacher in Jefferson City, TN

My name is Heather Whited. I am currently a junior at the University of Tennessee at Knoxville studying Agriculture Education. The two teaching philosophies I relate to most are Pragmatism and Empericism. These twi philosophies are mainly about believing things based on practical use. They are also about gaining knowledge through the experiences one has. I like this a lot because I am a very hands on learner, so that must be why I relate so much to these two philosophies. I believe children gain knowledge many different ways. It is hard for children to learn just by sitting around and looking through books. Life is all about experience and getting your hands dirty. There are many more teaching philosophies and each one is useful in their own ways. Each one provides a little extra into what teaching is and should be, and they all pertain to each childs learning style. A child is like a flower and if he or she is not put in the right conditions for growth, then they will never reach their full potential. You have to make sure that you change whatever needs to change so that a student can thrive. It does not always have to be your way or the high way.
