Heavenly Dream School

Heavenly Dream School is a Christian South Korean education facility that enrolls students who have escaped from North Korea. HDS is the first school of its kind, only admitting North Korean defectors, as to give them the opportunity to adapt and flourish without the pressures of mainstream South Korean schools. It also provides opportunities for sharing the love of Christ with the students.

The school currently has 60 students studying for a high school diploma equivalency. HDS has been able to educate and serve over 200 North Korean students throughout the past 10 years.

At the present time, North Korea is one of the most oppressive nations in the entire world. Most citizens in the North experience unimaginable hardships and live in constant fear of government reprimands, which can include forced labor and even concentration camps. Among some of the most oppressed people in North Korea are Christians. Because of this, the nation officially has no religion and harshly persecutes those who practice.

Our students have braved the most dangerous of circumstances to escape their country in hopes of gaining freedom in South Korea. In order to escape, a North Korean must cross their border into China, which is illegal. This is very dangerous, as the border is guarded. Once in China, they must hide from authorities, as it is currently China's policy to capture and repatriate North Koreans to North Korea. If sent back to the North, they face harsh punishment or even execution. In order to get to safety in South Korea, they must travel out of China and into a third country that will send them to the South. For many people, this takes many months, and even years.

HDS has a wonderful opportunity to advance the Gospel to these students who have gone without even hearing it for most of their lives. The school actively seeks to train up a generate of North Korean students who are grounded in a faith in Jesus. This is instrumental in the school's vision of training and raising leaders to be the frontrunners of unification between the North and South, all under the Lordship of Jesus Christ.
