Sam Smith

Rev Sam Smith is an ordained minister in the Church of the Brethren and has served for the past 16 years as a Youth Pastor in Mennonite, Brethren and United Methodist Congregations in the Western Suburbs of Chicago. He has a Diploma from Moody Bible Institute in Pastoral Studies, a B.A. from Wheaton College in Sociology and a Master of Divinity with an emphasis in Peace Studies from Bethany Theological Seminary. REV Sam has worked on a Doctor of Divinity Degree at Fuller Seminary. Sam’s doctoral work centers on Issues regarding Youth and Militarism.

In addition, he is the Chicago Chapter Chair of The Fellowship of Reconciliation and has served six years on the National Council of the Fellowship of Reconciliation USA where he was chair of the Program and Membership Committee and also sat on the Development Committee. During this time Rev Sam was and still is a member of the prestigious Historic Peace Churches/Fellowship of Reconciliation Consultative Committee. For the past seven years, Rev Sam has been one of the primary promoters of the I Will Not Kill Campaign. For the past three years, he has directed students at DePaul University as Service Learners regarding this FOR USA Counter Recruitment Campaign. In addition, in April 2012, Sam was named by Dr Mark Johnson, Executive Director of the Fellowship of Reconciliation USA, a Freeman Fellow of FOR USA.

Currently REV Sam is a Youth Speaker/Peace Activist with Heavy Light Ministries and is available nationally as well as internationally for Speaking Engagements, Workshops and Seminars. He lives in West Chicago, IL with his wife, Linda and their teenage son, Luke. Their daughter, Lia, is a Psychology Major at Wheaton College. Rev Smith is also in leadership locally with the West Suburban Faith-based PEACE Coalition.
