I am a Ph.D. candidate in the Department of Journalism & Technical [soon to be Media] Communication at Colorado State University. My research interests center on the intersection of pop culture and politics, particularly the implications of citizens' online everyday talk for political outcomes. My approach to this work is often cross-paradigmatic, as I draw on social scientific and critical/cultural approaches to inform my research. My dissertation focuses on affective outcomes of viewing political internet memes, including an examination of the role of motivations in the process of interpreting memes' visual arguments.
