My love of plants and insects began at an early age and serves as both my inspiration and subject matter. I was classically trained as a photographer, so I continue to see the world through a lens; aesthetically bringing a mix of detail and movement to the foreground for the viewer. When I started this series in 2009 I was going through a large transition in my life. During this time I began to identify with the life cycle of plants, flowers and all living things. Looking inward I started to appreciate what the Japanese refer to as wabi sabi, the beauty in decay and the acceptance of transience. Like many contemporary artists, my connection to nature is both highly personal and unconventional. Incorporating ink and charcoal on velum, I strive to create an unspoken relationship between the image and the viewer.
