Heidi is a Licensed Professional Counselor. She earned her Master's degree in counseling from the University of Mary, with an undergraduate degree in psychology from the College of St. Benedict/St. John's University. She has provided professional counseling and advocacy services to survivors of domestic and sexual abuse for 12 years. Heidi is also a DONA (Doulas of North America) trained birth and postpartum doula.
Heidi has provided training on sexual assault, domestic violence, dating violence and sexual harassment.
Heidi currently works at Bismarck Mandan Doula. As a doula, Heidi strives to protect the sanctity of birth for every woman, no matter how she plans to birth (hospital, home, epidural, natural). Heidi is a passionate believer of each woman's innate strength and wisdom. With knowledge and a supportive birthing team women can achieve their most fully satisfying birth.
Heidi worked for 2 years as a clinician for the Counseling and Psychotherapy Center Inc. CPC is an agency comprised of clinicians, criminal justice professionals and victim advocates who operate specialized sex offender management and treatment. The mission is to bring professional sex offender treatment and management to any community with a commitment to risk reduction from identified sex offenders through our outreach model of program development. CPC works with any offender to identify the triggers for his behavior and to guide him to develop a relapse prevention plan to prevent further victimization.
Heidi was previously employed at Soul Survivor Counseling Services, PC for 5 years where she provided counseling to anyone over 12 years of age who is in a controlling relationship or has been a victim of sexual assault. In addition, she served clients with coping difficulties due to a traumatic experience. She also worked with clientswho were grieving a death, struggling with a "bad relationship" with questions about codependency, and/or defining abuse in a relationship, struggling with chronic stress, anxiety, symptoms of depression or have general concerns they are seeking counseling for.
Heidi was previously employed with the Abused Adult Resource Center for eight years. Her work there focused on sexual assault crisis intervention/program management and support groups.
