Student, Musician, and aquatics in Perrysburg, Ohio
Hello! I am Helena Hickman, a Freshman, Undecided student and musician at Bowling Green State University (BGSU) where I play the viola in the Philharmonia. I am looking into majors that may lead to careers related to education, special education, occupational therapy, and digital design.
I live in Perrysburg, Ohio where I am currently employed as a lifeguard, a private and group swim instructor, and a swim lessons check-in clerk in the aquatics department of Fort Meigs YMCA and the Perrysburg Municipal Pool. I have been an aquatics employee since June 2016. I intend to become a head-lifeguard by the Spring of 2019 and a swim coach by the Summer of 2019. I also worked as a private viola instructor during the Summers of 2017 and 2018. Outside of these regularly scheduled positions, I work as a babysitter. I am certified in CPR, Oxygen, and First Aid Administration.
I am especially social, artistic, and enterprising. I am very interested in helping others, being creative, reading, music, and swimming- I am currently a member of BGSU's club swim team.
I was extremely involved throughout my Senior year at Perrysburg High School. I was a team captain for the swim team, a link-crew leader, and a peer-buddy who spent an hour a day aiding my peers in a special-education English classroom. I also was a section-leader and spirit committee member of the orchestra program. I played in both Symphony Strings and Symphony Orchestra classes.
Despite my busy schedule, I maintained a position on the Honor Roll all four years of high school and graduated with 11 college credit hours under my belt through BGSU in Intermediate Spanish I and II (the high school equivalent of Spanish IV) and Physics.
Finally, I currently attend church at Grace United Methodist in Perrysburg and was a member of the youth group there, GRO, my Senior year of high school. I attended a mission trip to Big Laurel, Kentucky in July 2018 with Grace United Methodist Church. In July 2015, I volunteered on a mission trip to Louisville, Kentucky with Grace Fellowship Church in Florence, Kentucky. Prior to attending Grace United Methodist, I attended Christ the Word Church in Sylvania, Ohio.
