Helen Umeobieri a self-motivated Young Professional Educator with 6+ years of working experience. She has strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills and is a passionate advocate for Sustainable Development Goals especially Quality Education, Zero Hunger, Responsible Consumption and Production and Climate Action.
Currently, Helen is an Advocate for the Global Schools Program by United Nations Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN) where she adopts a school-wide approach to promote Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) and Global Citizenship Education (GCED) in her local community through the training of teachers and students.
Her passion to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through ESD gained her the honour of being recognised as one of the November 2021 Advocate of the month for the Global Schools Program out of 300+ advocates from 75+ countries.
As a Food Systems Hero, who is also passionate about how improved access to food would help achieve quality education through increased participation and performance of children in underserved communities, she has over one year helped children grow out of hunger by volunteering with local NGOs like the Lagos Food Bank Initiative; Mamamoni Empowerment Foundation; Agribility-NUTRIDREN Agriculture Concept the and Future Food Africa initiative.
Helen is the initiator of Increase Teachers In Africa, where she facilitates actions that will inspire, motivate, position and provide opportunities for the younger generation of teachers and also advocate for Investment in Teachers towards gaining the 21st-century skills for solving the world greatest challenges of hunger, poverty, climate change and violence.
Helen believes that proper investment in teachers especially in low-income private schools is highly crucial in achieving Education for Sustainable Development and so should be the major focus of any government to get it right by strengthening partnerships.
Helen is convinced that positive actions taken would strategically increase the number of young and vibrant teachers who will drive change for the present and future generations.
