Valerie Hellinghausen is a graduate student studying strategic communication at the University of Missouri School of Journalism.

Valerie graduated summa cum laude from Mizzou in December 2016 with a focus in Print & Digital News Editing. In Missouri, she has worked as a reporter, assistant news editor, and assistant design editor for the Columbia Missourian newspaper.

Her passion for copy editing and informing audiences with accurate and engaging news stories led her toNew York. During the summer of 2016, she worked as a Dow Jones News Fund copy editing intern at Newsday on Long Island.

To continue honing her copy editing skills,Valerie spent the summer of 2017 copy editing at The Dallas Morning News.

Her excellence and passion for editing was also recognized in spring 2016 when she was awarded the American Copy Editors Society Education Fund scholarship.

Valerie's studies also led her abroad to Barcelona, Spain, where she worked as a reporting intern at the Catalan News Agency and a communications intern for Mujeres Felices, a nonprofit organization working to end violence against women.

Though her studies and passions have taken her across the country and around the globe, Valerie still maintains strong ties to her family and roots in League City, Texas.
