Lefteris Heretakis is a designer, educator, author, consultant and podcaster with more than three decades of experience across design practice and higher education. His work focuses on the future of art and design education, studio culture, creative judgement, authorship and the changing relationship between human capability and artificial intelligence. He is the founder of The New Art School and the Design Education Forum, and since 2019 has hosted Design Education Talks, an international podcast bringing together designers, educators, academics and creative leaders to examine how design should be taught, practised and understood in a rapidly changing world. He currently works as a Higher Education Consultant, contributes to Liverpool John Moores University, and holds a number of external examining, advisory and visiting roles internationally.

His wider work argues for an education that develops independent judgement rather than dependency, and that treats observation, drawing, making, critique and reflection as forms of thinking rather than preliminary steps towards an outcome. His current writing explores what happens when the finished artefact can no longer be assumed to be reliable evidence of learning, and how education must therefore place greater emphasis on process, responsibility, transformation and the causal relationship between the learner and the work. He is the author of The Moral Imagination: Art & Design Education for an Age That Lost Its Way, and his teaching, writing, workshops and international collaborations continue to explore how art and design education can preserve human agency, craft intelligence and the integration of hand, heart and mind in an age of increasing automation.
