Alfred Hermida is the author of the award-winning book, Tell Everyone: Why We Share and Why It Matters, published by DoubleDay Canada.

An award-winning digital media scholar and journalism educator, he is an associate professor at the University of British Columbia, where his research and teaching focuses on digital journalism, social media and new forms of story-telling.

A former BBC television, radio and online journalist, he has also contributed to The Globe and Mail, The Wall Street Journal, The Times of London and NPR.

Among his numerous awards are a Canadian Online Publishing Award for best blog for Reportr.net in 2010 and a 2011 UBC President’s Award for Public Education Through Media. In 2011, he was recognized by the Digi Awards as one of Canada’s top three social media mavens.

Through his research at UBC, and his earlier work at the BBC, he has built an international reputation as an authority on new media, with his work appearing in Journalism Practice and M/C Journal. His research interests include participatory journalism, social media and emerging genres of digital journalism.
