Hernán began his career in advertising design at Casares Grey & Asoc., where he was trained by the renowned Hugo Casares. He later worked at Macdonald, Henderson, Antelme, where he handled several consumer accounts, including banks, cars, and airlines. In 1982, he became creative director at Fusor. In February 1983, he was hired as a creative director at Delgado Darcy Macmannus in Bogotá, Colombia. In 1984, he took over as creative director at Publicidad Comercial-Líntas in El Salvador, overseeing strategy and creativity for regional accounts. He later moved to Costa Rica, where he served as creative director at Publimark, Publicentro, and TVWA. In 2000, he opened his own advertising agency, Fueradeserie S.A. Hernán Sánchez Barros is one of Latin America's most prominent creatives and has won numerous awards: the Clio Awards, the Sol de Iberoamérica Award from FIAP, and local distinctions in various countries. He is currently a marketing and advertising consultant with his company, SB MKT, based in San Salvador. He studied social communication at the University of Lomas de Zamora and psychology at UNIBE in Costa Rica. He has given more than 100 lectures in various forums and taught classes at the University of Costa Rica and Universidad Veritas.

San Salvador is the "Tareya" group with poets Ricardo Lindo, Oscar Rodriguez and Miguel Angel Chinchilla. In 1986 he won the "Club 63" International Award in Jaen, Spain, with his book "Márgenes de observación" (Margins of observation). 3rd. The year 1994 moved to San Jose, Costa Rica. In 2010 travels to Buenos Aires to present at the National Library his third book "Los cambios invisibles de la marea" (Invisible tidal movements), published by Editions Lajuncal. Alicia Digón presented his book, Patricia Diaz Bialet, and Mario Sampaolesi. Costa Rica's ambassador in Buenos Aires write the commentary cover. In 2011 writes the play "A flower is a flower in the window." In 2018, in Spain, Editorial Oceano published his novel entitled: “Solo los besos nos taparán la boca”, (only kisses will cover our mouths). Also in this period, he is dedicated to writing the lyrics and musical idea more than 20 tangos. His most recent book “El silencio de las cosas que no se piensan” was translated into 8 languages. He currently produces and presents the radio program "We Need to Talk), in Central America.
