An urban planner in practice and by education, she has spent the last 20 years working on various urban issues including affordable housing, community and economic development and place-based strategies.

A native of Baltimore, Maryland, Harriel is a graduate of Tuskegee University, Auburn University, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and the University of Pennsylvania.
