Who I Am

Heather Hope actively challenges what a museum can and should be in the 21st century. A strong speaker, dedicated team member, and accomplished writer, I question what role our cultural organizations play in communities and what they can mean to individuals.

Education

I have an M.A. in museum professions and a J.D., concentrating in art & museum law. Under my maiden name, I am published in the Journal of Art, Technology & Intellectual Property Law on museum deaccessioning. The second edition of my book, A Legal Dictionary for Museum Professionals, is available from Rowman & Littlefield.

Professional Work

I am serving my second term on the Professional Standards & Ethics Committee for the American Association for State & Local History, where I participated in the writing of 2 recent position papers. I am an Adjunct Assistant Professor in the M.A. Arts Administration Program at the University of Kentucky, and Program Coordinator of the Arts Administration M.A. program at Kutztown University. I have previously taught in the undergrad Museum Studies minor at Lincoln University and the M.A. in Museum Professions at Seton Hall University.

Past museum work has included the Meadowlands Museum (Interim ED, Rutherford, NJ), the Newark Musuem (rights manager), Chicago History Museum (law clerk, Office of the President), Save Ellis Island (intern and later Education Office), the Metropolitan Museum of Art (intern, Office of the Registrar), and elsewhere.

I am a founding member at Agate Creatives.
