Heba Moubarak
Student, Artist, and Small Business Owner in Melbourne, Australia
Hi, My name is Heba Moubarak and I am a 21 year old self-taught abstract and contemporary artist, living in Melbourne, Australia.
I am also a Part-time La Trobe University student studying a Bachelor Of Nursing/Midwifery.
'Hijabeeart By Heba' was developed in the early months of 2016. It's aim is to represent hijabi women in a unique and artistic way.
Hijabeeart is not only a platform to represent hijabi women but also to provide culturally and religiously appropriate artwork that muslims could relate to and of course, to be created by a muslim.
The Ultimate goal for me is to be able to walk into a gift store and I want the chance of me finding an Eid or Ramadan card to be equivalent to the chances of me finding a Christmas or Easter card on the shelf.
Throughout My creative journey, I've had the opportunity to create logos, Illustrations, Customised notebooks, Badges and Greeting cards.
This year, I was given the opportunity to work with an independent author based in the UK to illustrate a Children's book which explores the theme of diversity. It was surreal bringing characters to life and coming from an ethnic background, I was able to invest my talent as well as emotions into this project.
My favourite thing about being an illustrator is that there are no restrictions that come with being an artist. You become less afraid of using 'too many bright colours' in one illustration. You learn patience, confidence and you become open to criticism.
There are many challenges that come with being an artist becauseart is subjective and there is no guarantee my work will resonate with my intended audience. However, its all a learning experience and you begin to understand that in order for your art to flourish, you have to believe in it wholeheartedly. After 1.5 years, I finally do.
