Hilary Beard

Hilary Beard is an award-winning writer, author, editor and book collaborator, specializing in health and wellness, sexual and reproductive health, women's health, African-American health, diet and nutrition, life and career transitions, self-help, parenting, psychology, spirituality, and transformational memoir.

She is the co-author of seven books, including three New York Times best sellers: 21 Pounds in 21 Days: The Martha's Vineyard Diet Detox, with Roni DeLuz, N.D. Ph.D., and James Hester; Friends: A Love Story, with Angela Bassett and Courtney B. Vance; and Venus and Serena Serving from the Hip, with tennis's Williams sisters. She won an NAACP Image Award for Health First: The Black Woman's Wellness Guide. And her first memoir, Success Never Smelled So Sweet: How I Followed My Nose and Found My Passion with Lisa Price, Founder of Carol's Daughter, has revived many readers' spirits. Her most recent collaboration, Promises Kept: Raising Black Boys to Succeed in School and in Life, is the companion book to the award-winning documentary American Promise and the centerpiece of the filmmakers' campaign to close the educational achievement gap facing Black males.

Hilary has been the editor-in-chief of the National Medical Association's Healthy Living magazine, Real Health: The Publication of Black Wellness​ and The Black AIDS Weekly​, and has written for many magazines. She has counted The American Diabetes Association, the Office of National Drug Control Policy and American Express, Penton, and Rodale custom publishing companies among her clients.

Hilary has spoken before audiences ranging from the International AIDS Conference, the world's largest health gathering; to the national conventions of The Links, Inc., the National Association of 100 Black Women, and the National Association of Black Journalists, to Princeton University alumni.

Hilary came to publishing following a mid-career transition. After working in sales, marketing and general management with Fortune 50 companies, she threw off her pumps and stepped out on faith to follow her childhood dream of becoming a writer.

She is a graduate of Princeton University and lives in Philadelphia, where she is obtaining her coaching certification.
