Hilda May-Harris
This is a revised version of my biography because it is very difficult to fit my life in a small biography because I have so many interests in life.
I was a child prodigy. Although my audiences tended to be small, I have always been a public speaker. Being a public speaker is not eventful in most biographies. My situation was unique for several reasons: I was an African-American pre-adolescent female, and most of my public speaking was in church. Unbeknownst to me at the time was that normally the only speaking a person my age could do was recite, sing or prophesy! My siblings told me that I couldn’t sing very well joking that my singing brought my mother to tears and I’ve always resisted mindless memorization. Although there are many forms of prophesying, I’ve always enjoyed encouraging others. I was requested to do it often.
Although I was making plans to be a fashion designer, at the age of 15, I had matured where I actually felt the call to the ministry for myself. My first sermon after I accepted my calling was “get off the shores and launch out into the deep!” Although I was never ordained in that particular denomination, I still realize that all of us have our own unique ministry in life. Many of us will never speak from a pulpit but it does not diminish the importance of the service we all offer to the rest of the world.
At this time, I avoid public speaking but I do enjoy encouraging others in a private and sometimes anonymous capacity. However, my primary hobby in life at this time is exploring concepts about time and space. Hopefully, we can all learn how we can travel safely and efficiently to all regions of space.
