Hima Patel
My name is Hima Patel. I was born in the wicked wild of the nefarious veldts of Kenya on February 24, 1994. However, when I was only five years, my family moved to Atlanta, Georgia. Even though, Georgia has been my home for the past thirteen years of my life, I quickly grew to embrace Georgia and its beauty. Because I enjoyed reading books, immensely, I adjusted to my new school and felt comfortable. When I saw the library filled with rows and rows of bookshelves, I felt as if all my dreams came true.
In elementary school, being a participant of accelerated reading program, I was exposed to different genres I had never heard about. I read comic books, fiction books, and mystery books. I spent many days at the public and school library reading various types of books. Because of the continuous reading I did, I was nominated as the highest accelerated points achiever in my school for three consecutive years. My interest in reading soared when I reached middle school.
As I transitioned to middle school, other youth genres were readily available; thus my interest in reading was fueled by the works of different authors. During this time, I began to distinguish favorite authors and genres, thus I read books that only interested me. When the workload increased in high school, the amount of time I spent on leisure reading decreased. However, I was exposed to Aldous Huxley and other authors, which helped regain my interest in leisure reading. From the first book I received until this day, my love for reading has never wavered.
