Hinge Dating

Let’s chat about the hinge dating app! It is my favorite (and only) dating app. For real. I know I don’t really talk about dating on here, and that’s because I really don’t do it — however, Hinge has been a really interesting experiment for me over the last few months. I feel like a lot of people who know me will be shocked to hear this because I am a pretty private person, but I tried Hinge out a while back, and I actually went on my first date because of it! (Spoiler alert: we did not have a second date. But we did see Detective Pikachu so that’s cool?) .

As a 24-year-old single person who spends most of her time in her room or behind a screen, I need a safe space to meet people. Part of why I hate other dating apps is because they feel so fake. It’s all about swiping and looks, and I never really get to know anyone from their profile. Since Hinge is “designed to be deleted,” they’re all about real connections and everyone’s profile has fun personal questions to give you ideas for cool conversation starters. I’ve really been vibing with it because I don’t have to just judge someone on their (usually terrible) selfies.

I know dating is...intimidating. Dating apps feel like this taboo thing that can’t be authentic, and that’s just not what Hinge is about. That’s also not how we as a society should treat dating because sometimes the ONLY way you’re gonna find some cool is through the internet. So why not embrace online dating like we’ve embraced online everything else? I actually feel comfortable and confident using this app, and I’ve found some cool people on there (even if I’ve only ever been out on one date haha). So if you’ve been curious about testing out a dating app but you’re scared, TRY HINGE. I AM SO SERIOUS. I’m not just saying this because I’m a #hingepartner — I really do use this app!!
